When inmates buy phone cards, call collect or purchase items from the commissary, the profit goes into a fund to benefit inmates called the Inmate Welfare Funds. These funds provide the educational program in the jail.
Whether they finish while serving their time or after being released, LearningQuest is there to get them the education they need to pass the High School Equivalency test.
HSE classes are offered at the Minimum housing facilities.
Individual tutoring is provided in the Public Safety Center to improve literacy or HSE preparation.
How the Program Works
Inmates send a request form to the HSE instructor. The inmate is assessed and services are provided accordingly in either literacy or HSE. As a LearningQuest student, they also receive transition services where trained staff are brought in to help guide inmates toward their goals for college or career after release.
